The geographical location of Badankurti
Badankurti is a village present in Khanapur Mandal of Nirmal district in Telangana State, India. It is located 86 KM towards the South of the District headquarters, Adilabad. 11 KM from Khanapur. Badankurti is on the border of the Adilabad District and Karimnagar District and Karimnagar District Mallapur is South of this place.
In modern times, the remnants of a Buddhist monastery were found on a small island of the Godavari river near Badankurti. It is believed that Buddhism could have flourished in South India first through this island village in the Godavari river in the Telangana region. The region is exactly where the boundaries of Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar district meet.
History of Badankurti
Historians say that the marriage of the famous Shatavahana king Hala and Srilankan princess Lilavathi is believed to occur near Badankurti. This island village in the Godavari river is mentioned as the Saptha Godavari region in ancient books.

Badankurti village is also famous for the Dattatreya temple, which is a very rarest of its kind. Moreover, the village is also famous for Agricultural and milk production. As the village is in a very strategic location and the three districts namely Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad can be easily accessed from here. Government policies regarding Badankurti
The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) has urged the state government to establish a Buddhist memorial center at Badankurti village in Khanapur Mandal of Adilabad district. JAC co-convenor, Mallepalli Lakshmaiah was an important figure in drawing attention to the historical importance of Badankurti.
On the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, a meeting was organized to discuss the establishment of a Buddhist memorial center. The meeting was presided over by many important personalities from the region, who traced the history and depicted the relevance of the development of the site.
Mr. Lakshmaiah, JAC co-convenor has recalled the legendary sage Bavari and his 16 disciples who had interacted with Buddha himself. The sage was convinced by the tenets of that religion and he himself has embraced Buddhism.
The JAC co-convenor, Mr. Lakshmaiah has also mentioned the need to study the place, further historians and archaeologists. He has highlighted the need for the development of the national monument of Goutama Buddha at the same time. Chukka Ramaiah, MLC and well-known educationist suggested the inculcation of the element of questioning among children. He mentioned that Buddhism was founded on the principle of questioning established tenets.

Nirmal is the Nearest Town to Badankurti. Nirmal is 45 km from Badankurti. Road connectivity is there from Nirmal to Badankurthy and you can choose a bus or a cab.
By Rail
Badankurti does not have its own railway station. And, there is no railway station near Badankurthy in less than 10 km.
