The most famous Village Near Munnar Has a Lake with medicinal Powers

India has been known for its rich ancient history, divine nature, and spirituality. This beautiful place of Munnar is situated in the southern state of Kerala. Kerala is famous for ecotourism initiatives and beautiful backwaters along with some mystic destinations which you have never heard of. Well, it sounds magical right? But if we talk according to mythology then it’s possible that ancient people might have found such places. Okay, so let’s talk about one such place.

There is a village called Devikulam, located at a distance of just 10 km from the hill station of Munnar, which lies one unique village, Devikulam. It is a serene hill town, and the village has its name from the conjunction of Devi, from the goddess Devi, and kulam, meaning pond. Legend says, that the Goddess Sita bathe once there in the lake and since then it is called Sita Devi Lake and the village’s name is Devikulam.

So, the Devikulam makes for an ideal getaway for travelers looking for peace and calm amongst the lush green tea plantations of the region. Less than a thousand people make up the entire population of this village which lies about 5,900 ft. above sea level.

The village’s major attraction, the Sita Devi Lake, holds great importance in the Hindu religion, thousands of devotees come every year to visit this lake. The people believe that the waters of the lake have some healing properties and a dip in the lake is said to be a medicable experience that can cure several illnesses. Yes, it’s hard to believe, right? But in reality, I don’t know, I can’t say anything for sure. According to the mythology at the time of Ramayana, Devi Dita took a bath in this lake and it turns into holy water and that’s why the people believe that the lake is having some magical powers or can say healing powers.

But here in this village, there are lots of things to visit, do read some of those interesting things.

There is a Natural Park, Eravikulam National Park, which is located at a distance of 22 km from Devikulam village. The park was constructed in 1978 to defend the scarce Nilgiri tahr and is extended across almost 100 sq. km. The National Park is a hub for some of the rarest migratory birds, animals, and reptiles.

Another interesting thing is that Devikulam is also most famous for its regal tea gardens as some of them are actually the oldest ones. Meanwhile, the oldest ones are actually present from the 1900s. so, if you are an explorer and want to know the process of tea plantation then visit these estates to know about the procedure of tea plantation and drink some of those varieties. These lush green tea estates make some of the best tea in the world.

The Blossom International Park, this place is one of the hottest tourist spots in Munnar, the Blossom International Park provides a day of full entertainment for people of all ages. The park has many adventure activities such as rides, cycling, roller skating, and many more things to do here.
