An Israeli filmmaker, Nadav Lapid, and the head of the jury at the 53rd International film festival made some controversial comments about the Kashmir Files. They said, the movie is inappropriate for an artist and this film is both offensive and propaganda. And this thing caused a major political uproar. The Israeli ambassador to India, Naor Gilon said that Nadav out to be embarrassed by his comments.
Mr. Nadav said that the jury was disturbed and shocked by this film at the festival. ‘
The Kashmir Files, written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is based on the emigration of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley at the height of militancy in the 90s. While some people supported and appreciate Mr. Lapid for calling out propaganda, while others have accused him of being insensitive towards the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits.
the IFFI Jury Board said in a statement that, whatever Mr. Lapid has said about the movie is his “personal opinion” and has “nothing to do” with the IFFI jury board.
Naor Gilon tweeted, he said Mr. Lapid should be ashamed as he had abused in the worst way the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits Indian’s invitation to chair the panel of judges at IFFI.
Actor Anupam Kher, who played the role of the protagonist in the movie also scolded the Israeli filmmaker for his comments, saying, May God give him wisdom.
