India on Friday night admitted that one of its missiles was accidentally fired and it fell at least 128 km deep inside Pakistan. The missile fell in a place called Mian Channi and luckily, there was no loss of life. India said the missile was fired due to technical malfunction and was being investigated into.
The incident occurred on March 9, a day before the election results were announced. The missile entered into Pakistan via Suratgarh and damaged civilian property. The Ministry of Defence issued a statement that read: ‘On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile. The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry. It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.’
Earlier, Pakistan said that an unarmed missile took off from Sirsa in Haryana and landed in Mian channu. Interestingly, no calls were made at the level of Directors General of Military Operations.
