The Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum is located in Aurangabad and is one of the best tourist attractions in Aurangabad to visit and learn about ancient culture. The museum is dedicated to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who was the great Maratha Ruler. The museum is founded by the Municipal corporation of Aurangabad, and the cost of the museum is estimated at around 194 lakhs. The museum has a total of 6 exhibition halls that displays the Maratha as a warrior.

If you are visiting this museum, you will feel like you are back in the days of Maratha valor and their love for their land. It will remind you all about the ancient culture, how they fought for their land and all about the Maharaj Shivaji and their history. There are several exhibits on the display which tell the stories of the glorious reign of the famous and brave King that are showcased in 6 galleries. The display consists of Maratha War weapons and other artifacts from the battlefield that they used in the wars and some of the most popular wars that the Marathas fought bravely.

The main exhibits, here include the 500-year-old war suits, outfits, a copy of Aurangzeb’s handwritten Quran, and a 400-year-old Paithani Sari. The first hall is decorated with wooden crafts which remind us of their beautiful and glorious past. The second hall is full of swords, shields, and ancient rifles that are used at the time of war. And in the next hall, there are some photographs and transparencies of the forts like Torana, Lohagad, Panhalgad, and sinhagad displayed. Even the advanced architectural beauty of the forts can be seen. The fourth hall consists of vessels that are used by the people of that time belongings to the great King Shivaji Maharaj. There is also a separate space provided for the exhibition of coins and these coins are very rare. The coins were used during the reign of the Satavahana Dynasty. One can also see the display, we can get a detailed idea of the lifestyles of the people of Shivaji Maharaja’s era.

In the end, this museum displays the artifacts, weaponry, paintings, and coins from Maharashtra during the 17th century, when the famous brave king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ruled. This museum does not have any kind of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s personal weaponry that is displayed, but it does have other weapons and coins from that Era.

Timings to visit the museum are- 10:30 am- 6 pm except for Thursday
