Let me tell you the basic Indian typical story when it comes to the Schedule caste and Scheduled Tribe Caste our people’s reactions are he or she belong to the lower caste, and they do not even eat the food or drink the water from their hands. In India, there is still these type of people around us who have a conservative mind and narrow mentality. We still have a system of lower and upper caste, and we still have a reservation system, right. But the question is why so? If we all have equal human rights then why do those people have to struggle a lot? In this article, I will tell the story of one such person.
Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 in Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. From the family of village headmen who worked under the Panchayati Raj system. Both of her parents and grandparents held the position of the headman in the community. From being in a tribal family that was even fighting poverty, Murmu’s childhood was tough and full of challenges, and being a tribal woman she had to face a lot of difficulties in her life which is full of hardships.
She even had to suffer from personal losses and was struck with a series of misfortune every time. She even had to face domination, fascism, or societal oppression.
She has completed her graduation from Rama Devi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. After her studies, she started working as an assistant professor at the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research and as a junior assistant at the irrigation department of the government of Odisha.
Her paternal grandfather Biranchi Narayan Tudu was a native of the Mayurbhanj district and lived in the village of Baidaposi. Later, Draupadi married Shyam Charan Murmu, a bank official but unfortunately, he passed away in 2014. The couple had two boys, but unfortunately, her son Laxman Murmu has passed away in 2013. Murmu lost her other son in 2009. She was suffering from depression after the death of her two children. Murmu has two brothers, named Bhagat Tudu and Sarani Tudu.
Now come to Murmu’s career, she joined BJP, Bharatiya Janta Party in 1997. She began her political career as the vice-chairman of the Rairangpur NAC. In addition, the Odisha Legislative Assembly honored her with its Best MLA of the Year 2007 award. She was also honored with the Nikantha award for being the best MLA.
She has good enough administrative experience having handled ministries such as transport, commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry in the Odisha government.
She has also served the office of the governor of Jharkhand and was a member of the Odisha legislative assembly and now she is the official nominee of the National Democratic Alliance for the forthcoming 2022 presidential elections. NDA decided this during the BJP‘s Parliamentary Board meeting.
In 1997, Draupadi Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janta Party. She became the first woman governor of Jharkhand. In Addition, she was the first female tribal leader in such an honored position in India.
It was very surprising and delightful for her when National Democratic Alliance elected her as their presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
On 21 June, they decided to nominate the tribal leader Draupadi as the presidential candidate. And Murmu has a higher chance of winning the election as her case is very strong, once selected then Murmu will be the first tribal president of the country.
Her case is very strong against Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, the minister whom the opposition elected. Nomination suits the narrative of NDA who previously selected Ram Nath Kovind in 2017 for their nomination. He too belonged to a very small community and was a farmer’s son. He became the second Dalit president in India.
Yashwant Sinha is a highly experienced politician, he was the finance minister and minister of external affairs of the country. He has been named the Presidential candidate for the year 2022 elections by the opposition. Mr. Yashwant Sinha was an Ex- IAS officer and a very famous and renowned politician.

Some of Her achievements:
- She was elected to serve as a counselor for the Rairangpur district in Odisha. During the same year, she was also Rairangpur’s Vice-Chairperson. Her tenure there lasted one year when she just joined the BJP in 1997.
- Following her victory in the assembly elections held in the Rairangpur seat in 2004, she was subsequently elected to a ministerial position in the BJP. She began working at the department of transport, trade, fisheries, and animal husbandry in 2000, and she remained employed there until 2004.
- She was victorious in the assembly elections in 2004, and this time she was chosen to represent the BJP in the Rairangpur seat.
- In 2006, she won the election to serve as the State President of the BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha and the District President of the BJP in Mayurbhanj. Between the years 2006 and 2009, she held the position.
- She was chosen to serve as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand in May 2015 and continue in that position until May 2021.
- She was nominated by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to run for the presidency of India in the 2022 elections.
