Let’s come and read the real-life story of an Indian Army officer who made supreme sacrifice of himself for us for our country. He did the bravest thing ever in history that will be always in our hearts.

Vikram Batra
Captain Vikram Batra, was an Indian Army Officer. He was born on 9 September 1974 in the Palampur village of Himachal Pradesh, India. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra during the Kargil War.
Vikram Batra Family Details:
His father’s name was Girdhari Lal Batra, who was a government school principal. He has 2 twin brothers and 3 sisters, Vikram was the third son. He went to the DAV public School for his middle schooling and then moved to the Central School for his senior secondary education, in Palampur.
Vikram Batra Education:
After completing his schooling, he went to the DAV College in Chandigarh, for B.Sc. in medical sciences. During his college life, he joined the National cadet corps and qualified for the C certificate in NCC, and was promoted to the rank of senior under office in NCC. Later on, in 1994 he took part in the Republic Day parade as an NCC cadet. As soon as he realized this suddenly grew interested in Army and told his parents that he wants to join Army. In 1995, during his college, he was selected for the merchant Navy at a shipping company in Hong Kong. But he again realized that he wanted to do something big and great that would help our country, to make the country proud. After completing his bachelor’s degree from the DAV College Chandigarh, he took admitted to the M.A English in Punjab University, so that he could prepare for the CDS Examination. He started preparing for the exams and joined classes in the evening, later after completing the 1-year course in MA English he got selected for the Army and he left the university in between to join the Army.
Vikram Batra Career:
Vikram joined IMA (Indian Military Academy), Dehradun in 1996. There he completed his 19-month training program and graduated from IMA on 6 Dec 1997 he was promoted to lieutenant in the Indian Army. And then he was sent for regimental training in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh for 1 month. After completing this training, he got his first posting at Sopore in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Then he was sent to infantry military school for the young’s officer course in Madhya Pradesh for 5 months of training in 1998. There he is being awarded Alpha grading and joined his battalion in Sopore, in October 1998.
During the War, he was tasked to attack point 5140, the important mountain peak, Captain Vikram Batra the commander of the Delta Company motivated his men to physically assault the enemy positions.
Batra realized that his men had been shot, then he himself exposed to the enemy to drag safe the injured soldier, during this, he was shot in the chest and then directly hit in the head.
He made the sacrifice for the country and showed bravery and leadership in the face of the enemy.
He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra award, the Highest Military honor on 15 Aug 1999.
