PV Sindhu is only Indian on Forbes highest-paid female athletes list With $5.5 mn
India’s badminton star P V Sindhu is the only athlete from the country to be named among the world’s highest-paid female athletes by Forbes, a list topped by tennis great Serena Willams. It has been a golden year for ace badminton player PV Sindhu, who became the first Indian to grab a gold medal at Badminton World Championships. Now, the world no.5 has become the highest-paid woman athlete of the country, Financial Express reported.
Sindhu’s remarkable consistency has proved to be her biggest marketability, as that is a quality that assures surety to a brand. “She is not a flash in the pan kind of performer and brands value that quality of hers,” says Ritesh Nath, Director – Commercial, Nielsen Sports and Entertainment India.
With total earnings of 5.5 million dollars, Sindhu is tied for the 13th place in The Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2019 list released by Forbes on Tuesday. “Sindhu remains India’s most marketable female athlete….She became the first Indian to win the season-ending BWF World Tour finals in 2018,” Forbes said.
