Anonymous donor gives $1 million to Dignity Health Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz
The Dignity Health Dominican Hospital Employees in Santa Cruz, California received a generous gift $1 million from an anonymous donor.
Around the country, there’s a lot of gratitude for medical providers these days, and in Santa Cruz, California, a recent anonymous note to the local hospital was no exception.
“Thank you for standing up (and staying up!) to care for our community,” the note said. “This human kindness is what makes you heroic.”
It was the donation that came with that note though, one million dollars, that has hospital employees cheering.
The anonymous gift was designated entirely for the hospital’s 1300 employees: nurses, cleaning staff, lab techs, medical records, even mailroom staff and security guards. Staff who have worked at Dominican Hospital for at least a year are getting a bonus check. Full-time staff get $800, part-timers receive $600.
The hospital’s president said the donation is a testament to their employee’s clinical excellence and their tireless dedication. After weeks of hard work, lead housekeeper Cesario Castillo said he was amazed at the generosity of a stranger and especially appreciative it’s being shared with all employees.
The 61-year-old Castillo, who’s worked at Dominican Hospital for 28 years, says he plans on donating a portion of his bonus to help the unemployed in the Santa Cruz community.
